June 20, 2017: On-line registration for workshops ends. Tickets available at the ABDC Front desk for open workshops and galas during convention hours

WANT TO TEACH?

The Austin Belly Dance Convention (the ABDC) is looking for fabulous instructors! We accept workshops and presentations that are associated with all styles of Belly Dance performance, for example Middle Eastern dance, folk dance, tribal dance, sword, veil, zils, dumbek, music, make-up, costuming, history, culture, and production. Details are listed below and in the Teacher Policies regarding compensation for workshops, performance requirements, and deadlines.

The ABDC has partnered with an amazing amount of talented teachers from Austin and around the world. Past headline teachers have been Zahra Zuhair, Aziza, Eva Fleming, Jasmin Jahal, Sadie & Souhail Kaspar, Suhaila Salimpour, Virginia, and Yasmina Ramzy. Some of our local teachers include Amara, April Rose, Bahaia, Stacey Lizette, and Z-Helene.

For outside of Texas instructors, the ABDC and Aria Dance Foundation have partnered up to offer a Travel Grant.

DEADLINES:

  • We will take Teacher Application forms until October 1, 2015.
  • We will review applications and reply to applicants by November 1, 2015.
  • Once all the Teacher Applications are received, we will review the topics and design the best exciting schedule for the ABDC.
  • Invited teachers will need to confirm attendance and submit requested information (listed below) by November 20, 2015.

TEACHING LENGTHS:

  • Dance, Lectures, and Demonstrations Workshops: 2 hours.

PERFORMANCE:

  • Required performance of 6-10 minutes in an evening show. Additional performing responsibilities are negotiated with individual contracts.

DANCE, MUSIC, AND LECTURE WORKSHOP COMPENSATION:

  1. SPONSOR to compensate ARTIST $150.00 USD flat rate plus an additional $10.50 per paid registrant starting at the 15th student registered per workshop/lecture. Teacher, Musicians, and Vendor comps do not count towards class total. Max paying attendance, due to room occupation limits is 25 per dance workshop. Bonus of $50.00 USD if workshop is sold out (25 paid registrants for dance workshops) by last day of on-line registration. Max payout per dance workshop is $305.00 USD.
  2. SPONSOR to compensate ARTIST $150.00 USD flat rate. Teacher, Musicians, and Vendor comps do not count towards class total. Max paying attendance, due to room occupation limits is 12 per lecture workshop. Bonus of $50.00 USD if workshop is sold out (12 paid registrants for lecture workshops) by last day of on-line registration. Max payout per lecture workshop is s $200.00 USD.

  3. SPONSOR provides ARTIST an opportunity to volunteer as a Room Moderator for other workshops and attend said workshop for free.
  4. ARTIST is free to attend any shows or workshops that are not sold out. ARTIST will need to check-in with the ABDC Front Desk for workshop availability. SPONSOR will do best to accommodate ARTIST request when possible.
  5. The ABDC t-shirt.
  6. Discount on an ad in the ABDC event program.
  7. Hard copy of the ABDC program.
  8. Downloadable video file of personal performances.
  9. SPONSOR will provide space during vending hours for ARTIST to display personal videos, T Shirts, DVDs, music used in workshop for sale, and promotional materials. Should ARTIST desire to bring other merchandise for sale, ARTIST will gain written consent from SPONSOR prior to workshop. SPONSOR will obtain a competent person to help ARTIST’s to sell merchandise at ARTIST table. SPONSOR is not responsible loss or damage of merchandise, theft, or any other normal vending risks. ARTIST is responsible for obtaining a Texas Sales Tax Permit.
